Yesterday was the 2009 Race for the Cure here in Austin and I ran on my work team (Go Pink Frosties!). Whoever decided it was a good idea to schedule the race the morning after Halloween and the time change was severely messed up in the head. All the same, I was a good girl Saturday night and went to bed early so I could be at the race site at 7am sharp. I even turned down opportunities to watch the UT game (Hook Em!) with friends at a bar and go downtown to witness all of the Halloween debauchery. Apparently it takes willpower to abstain from things other than chocolate…
Well, after some crazy traffic and tense nerves en route to the site, I ran the race with my coworker Marcie. She is a faster runner than me and is well versed in hills so I decided that she was the perfect person to push me to my best 5k time…and I was right!
Ladies and gentlemen, yours truly ran 3.1 miles in 26.4 minutes!!! Me! 3.1 miles! 26.4 minutes! It’s a morning-after-Halloween miracle! Before yesterday I had never broken 30 minutes for a 5k. Heck, I ran in the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay a month ago with my fellow fatroll girls and managed a 30.1 minute 5k time. Not that my marathon relay time wasn’t respectable, but I totally blew it out of the water yesterday with the time I turned in. This is a HUGE accomplishment for a curvy, muscular, German girl like me so I have to yell it from the rooftops…or at least via the @fatroll blog.
What a difference a month makes…
Me and Marcie, my version of Jillian Michaels.
Proof! I still can’t believe it…
